The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry
But how? That’s my first question and we don’t even have kids! How do those full-time moms/dads do it? How do the full-time job ironman racers do it? How do the single, full-time moms/dads do it? I could have a thousand “how do so and so” questions, however, there is time. There is time, even if it’s a sliver of your day, early in the morning, after you’ve put the kids down to sleep or a short lunch break….at some point in the day, we are called to slooooooow doooowwwwnnnn.
This book, “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” written by John Mark was a simple yet profound book. We were not created to be busy-bees (even though it seems like all the cool kids are), nor can we multitask, you may be braggadocious that you can but scientifically our brains literally cannot do multiple things at once. We can hop from one thing to one thing but we cannot chase two bunnies at the same time and expect to be successful in catching them both.
Jesus was the master of taking a breath and slowing down. He listened, heard and spoke with assurance not hesitation or question. He was patient and talented yet humble. He took time to be with the Father, to pray about his worries, cares and people in His life. His mind was so clear without the stresses and worries of this life that he was perfect at being present with whoever was with Him.
I don’t know about you but I tell myself day in and day out that I need to slow down yet, I don’t. I keep my mind preoccupied with what I can make for dinner, buy at the grocery store, who to hangout with next, what workout do to do later, homework, etc….the list goes on. Rarely am I ever actually present. I hate to admit it but there have been many times that I am looking at someone in the eyes but have absoluely no clue what they just told me.
So what’s this weeks challenge? Being present. But really being present, slowing down and making time for His Word, people, my husband, Rocky (my dog- yes he needs love too) and my God most of all.
